U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that his supporters were responsible for the boos directed at singer Taylor Swift during Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
“The only one who had a worse night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift,” Trump mocked in a post on Truth Social, his social media platform. “She left the stadium to boos. MAGA (‘Make America Great Again’) doesn’t forgive!” he added.
Swift attended the Super Bowl in New Orleans to watch her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, the Chiefs’ star tight end. Their relationship has linked Swift’s image to the team, making them one of the most talked-about celebrity couples in the country. However, when the cameras focused on her in the stadium, she was met with boos from some fans.
While it might seem that Eagles fans were behind the reaction, Trump turned the sports rivalry into a political issue. Swift had publicly endorsed Trump’s opponent, Democrat Kamala Harris, in the recent election campaign. Meanwhile, Kelce had expressed it was a “great honor” that Trump was attending the game, making him the first U.S. president to do so.
